How to Work with a Color You Never Wear: The bridesmaid edition
It happens to all of us. We’re asked to be part of the bridal party as a bridesmaid or maid of honor (yay!) and then we’re asked to wear a wedding color that, well, isn’t for everyone. What to do? Don’t worry. We’ve been there, which is why we’ve put together our favorite ways to work with a color you never wear, and make it work for you:
ACCEPT AND BE HAPPY
It’s your bestie’s big day. Whether or not the color theme she chose for her wedding, and thus, the color of your bridesmaid dress, is right for you isn’t really the issue. This is all about supporting and celebrating her, which, (sorry), might mean wearing brights when you’ve gone head-to-toe-neutral since forever. But at the end of the day, you’ll be happy that the bride is happy. Because it’s a wedding, and every single color always ends up looking radiant.
ACCESSORIES ARE EVERYTHING
Find a few fabulous pieces of jewelry that you absolutely love. Pretty earrings and a necklace are surefire ways to draw attention toward the sparkle of your jewelry. Ask the bride if you might wear a wrap or scarf, then pick a neutral or other shade that coordinates with your dress. That too, will draw attention away from a color that might not flatter you most.
WAKE UP YOUR MAKE-UP
If the color you’re wearing feels overpowering, you can always go a little further with your make-up. A smoky eye, a little extra shadow or even a bright lip can do wonders for keeping the focus on your smiling face.
